  • Notes
    • Andrew followed the profession of a Notary, and as a witness to a charter dated at Montquhany, near Crail, 7th April, 1590, grantd by Michael Balfour (to whom he is described as servitor) to his son Andrew Balfour and Margaret Melville, his spouse, of the lands of Noltland in the island of Westray. He may have been a son of John Edmondston at that time minister of Crail. He went to Shetland shortly thereafter, as he witnessed a charter by Patrick, master of Orkney, to William Sinclair in liferent, and John Sinclair his son and Marion Halcro, his wife, and Henry their son, of a tenement in Scalloway dated 26th Septemver, 1592. Previous to 1598, he was admitted minister of Yell, and as such witnesses a letter of reversion, dated 21st August, 1598, by James Strang of Voesgarth, to David Sinclair of Hunto, in Orkney, of 18 merks land in Melbie called the "great last". On 24th Janueary, 1619, as Andrew Edmondston of Hamnavoe, minister of Yell, he excambs with consent of his spouse certain lands with Walter Scott of Whytsness. He was seised in 1625 in 5 merks land in Strand in Fetlar, on Charter by Thomas Lauder to him and his wife. He also acquired the lands of Hascosay and Gravaland, and died about 1632. [S3]
